During March and April, IM4DC has delivered nine short courses and study tours in Africa, South East Asia, Peru and Australia, covering economic, commercial, social and environmental topics relating to resources development. We have sponsored seven IM4DC Fellows to undertake projects with institutions. Six new action research reports have been published. IM4DC also presented an Alumni event in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
IM4DC is presenting its annual Alumni Forum and Mining for Development Conference in Perth in the last week of April. These events will be attended by participants from the mining and development infrastructure study tour and the minerals policy and economics short course.
In recent weeks, companies, universities and government agencies in Australia have hosted Indonesian officials and advisers who are examining options for reform of the oil and gas sector in Indonesia. IM4DC has been pleased to meet with them to discuss key issues around sector development as well as opportunities for Australia-Indonesia cooperation.
Here’s what is happening in the final two months of IM4DC’s operations:
- Resource conservation workshop, Bandung, Indonesia – May
- Study tour by Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources on PPPs for community infrastructure, Queensland – May
- Indonesia Alumni Day, Jakarta – May
- Resource estimation workshop, Ulaanbataar, Mongolia – June
- Tailings management short course, Manila, Philippines – June
- Mongolia Alumni Day, Ulaanbataar – June
As well, IM4DC will provide program support to an APEC Mining and Energy Services Symposium in Perth in June.
In addition, IM4DC, working with other organisations, will release two major handbooks: one on negotiation and the other on transfer pricing. Several additional action research reports will also be published.
What is particularly pleasing is the ‘team Australia’ support that departments and agencies from State Governments, as well as companies and industry associations, provide to IM4DC’s courses and study tours.
For the current mining and development infrastructure study tour for example, 13 State and local government agencies, plus business associations, have provided senior officials to share their knowledge in lecture sessions. Government agencies and minerals, energy and services companies are hosting site visits in Perth and the Pilbara.
