During June, 24 participants from a range of African countries continued their program on Practical and Effective Integration of Cadastral, Geoscience and Geographical Data in GIS Systems for Exploration and Mining Projects in Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou, West Africa.
The course leader, Vaclav Metelka from The University of Western Australia (UWA) Centre for Exploration Targeting (CET), covered a range of GIS techniques for working with data sets from the exploration and mining sectors.
Participants also had the opportunity to practice their skills during a field trip, which involved the collection of data and input into a GIS system. In the final week of the program, participants focused on geochemical data sets, and working on their plans for applying their learning back in their work environments.
Feedback from participants has been very positive, and discussions are underway on opportunities for future courses, including one on advanced applications.
