Australia’s regional mining supply sector showcased in Peru

Australia’s successes in building regional clusters of mining equipment, technology and services (METS) companies were showcased in Lima, Peru on 15 May. IM4DC Director, Ian Satchwell spoke at the Peru International Gold Symposium and Silver Forum on Building Mining Services Clusters in Australia. He highlighted the rapid growth in the METS sector and its exports of goods and services globally, which is paralleling the rapid growth of the Australian mining industry and Australian investment offshore.

Using case studies of Kalgoorlie and Darwin, Ian discussed how strong METS clusters had been built and what lessons could apply for Peru. Ian also discussed mechanisms to facilitate development of Aboriginal businesses, using Western Australian examples. Ian’s presentation is available here

The conference was attended by more than 700 Peruvian and international delegates from industry, government, NGO’s and the METS sector.
